When speaking of different types of data available in Omnisend, we should differentiate the information about the contacts (profile data) and the information passed with the events.
In this article, we will look through the different types of data within your customers' profiles. Check this article for more information on the data types of the properties passed with custom events.
Profile data types
The information stored in your customers' profiles can be recorded to the default fields or to the custom properties. All of the default and custom properties can have one of the following data types:
- Email address
- Phone number
- Boolean value
- Date value
- List value
- Number value
- Text value
The type of data defines how this property is stored in the platform, and how you can refer to this data when Segmenting your contacts.
Email address is a unique data type that is different from the field having the text format. If you record the email address as a custom property in a string format, you won't be able to use that email as a recipient one. Each contact can have only one email address. To add another email address, you need to create another contact record in Omnisend.
Phone number is a unique data type, having the same properties as the email address but a different priority. Each contact can have only one phone number. You can have the contact without the email address, but the same phone number can be added to one profile only.
Boolean value can have True or False value. Some of the default properties, such as GDPR and TCPA consent, have boolean data type. You can also use it in the Segments to check if any value is assigned to the property, for example, Birthday date -> Value -> Exists.
Date value is stored in the system as a string and should be recorded in one of the following formats:
- YYYY-MM-DD or 2020-01-01
- YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS or 2020-02-29 14:23
- YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SSZ or 2020-02-29T14:23Z
- YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS+HH:00 or 2020-02-29T14:23+02:00
The information with the date value can be Segmented with one of the following filters:
List value is presented by the checkbox custom property type in the Preference management page. Currently, Omnisend doesn't support list and object types in the custom property, but in case you add a multi-valued property to the Preference management page, it will be presented with list value in Segments.
Number value support integers and floats rounded to 6 digits precision. Example: 1; 1.234567. The following filters can be applied to the numbers:
Text value is a string with a maximum length of 2048 Latin characters, numbers, and spaces. The following filters can be applied to the text data:
Your customers' profiles can be populated with the information in one of the following ways:
- Synced from the store (default properties)
- Added manually or imported from the file (default & custom properties)
- Collected with the Sign-up form (default & custom properties)
- Passed by a third party application (default & custom properties).
