Before you can send your Email Campaigns and enable Automation workflows, you may want to check the result your customers will see in their inboxes. In this article, we will let you know about each of these options.

Note that this article is dedicated to Classic email builder, if you work in a New email builder, jump to the dedicated guide.


In Omnisend, you can find different options to review the design of your emails:

  • Preview your message design in the editor

  • Send a test message

  • Send Campaign to the test Segment

  • Trigger Automation workflow in real conditions

Each of these options has its advantages compared to the challenges you may face.

Preview your message design in the editor

Each of the channels has its own ways to preview the layout of the message. To preview your Email message in the Email Campaign and Automation workflow, you may use the Preview option at the bottom of the editor.

Here, you may choose to preview the email design on both Desktop and Mobile and even change your screen layout with Rotate option.

Send a test message

If you wish to test your messages with different devices, you may also send a test message.

Send test emails

To check the design of the email message, you may choose to send the email to one email address or a selected list of email addresses.

If you enter one email address, the email will be sent to one customer only. However, you may also enter a list of different emails separated with commas, ex: [email protected], [email protected], etc.

The subject line of the Test emails is marked with [Preview] key-word.

All of the test messages sent with Omnisend will be delivered to your customers' inboxes through the shared domain. Even if you sign your domain with Omnisend, test emails will be sent through the shared one.

Send test SMS

If you wish to preview your SMS Campaigns content, you may also use the test option.

However, personalized content such as your customers' names or the link to the Cart they abandoned won't be shown in the test message.

Content blocks in the test Email messages

In the test email message, personalized blocks won't be populated with custom values. The list of these blocks include:

  • Billing and Shipping (for Order and Shipping Confirmation emails)

  • Order Summary (for Order and Shipping Confirmation emails)

  • Order status button (for Order and Shipping Confirmation emails)

  • Order note (for Order and Shipping Confirmation emails)

  • Abandoned Cart (for Abandoned Cart automation)

  • Checkout button (for Abandoned Cart automation)

  • Product Recommender

  • Scratch Card (for Email Campaigns)

  • Discount Content Block

  • Gift box

  • Personalization

  • Unsubscribe page

  • Preference management page

Testing in real conditions

If you wish to test your emails in real conditions, we suggest sending the email to your email address or triggering the automation in your store. Before you can send the email to your email address or the list of the selected emails, you should create a Test Segment.

Create a Test Segment

1.Create a Tag by assigning it to one of your customer's profiles

2. Create a Segment of the customers having a tag for your testing purposes

Send Email Campaign to the Test Segment

Once you have the Test Segment, you may choose to send your Email Campaign to the customers included in the Segment.

Trigger Automation workflow with Test Segment

In the Automation workflow settings, you will need to add the Audience filter to prevent the automation workflow from being triggered when the customer enters the sequence.

Once you do this, we recommend you enter the store using the Incognito window of your browser and perform the action specified in the trigger settings. In that case, you will get a complete view of your emails' performance, whether the trigger is appropriately matched, and how personalized blocks will be displayed in your customers' inboxes.

To prevent bad actors from using test emails, we add certain restrictions to the operation of the links:
- all links in the test Campaigns (automation workflows are not affected) will expire after 10 clicks;
- each link of the Campaign (automation workflows is not affected) test email will expire after 48 hours after the test email was sent.

After clicking on the expired link, the user will be redirected to this landing page
