Form transfer process
What will happen during the form transfer process:
Forms marked with Classic Form Builder will be moved to the New Form Builder. Both enabled and disabled forms will be transferred. If the form is enabled, it will stay enabled.
Subscribers will continue being collected if the transferred form is enabled. There will be no changes to the existing reports, and new subscriber data will be updated in the same form.
⚠️ Landing page links and embedded form code will stay the same. There is no need to replace them.
Because of the New Builder Look and Feel - there might be slight differences in how the form looks, so we encourage you to check and adjust if something is needed.
Mobile views and signups
If on the Classic Form Builder you previously used Google - Mobile Friendly option in your forms. After moving to the New Form Builder you'll see more Views coming in from mobile. That is because of the way we calculated views:
What is Google - Mobile Friendly?
Google - Mobile Friendly forms were a two-step process. You first had to click on a button. then the whole form would appear. While developing the New Form Builder, we learned that this is unnecessary - you only need to delay the appearance of your form using Display options (Read more about it here).
Why is the data different?
When Google-Mobile friendly is enabled, Omnisend only counts Views of the full form (marked in green). That means if a customer visited on mobile and saw the first form (marked in red), then closed it - no view was counted. Only when the customers click the button to show the full form - only the view of the full form is counted. Since most customers are likely to close the form on the first step - it makes the impression that the form is performing very well on mobile. On desktop, the form doesn't have multiple steps - so all views are counted.
⚠️ Avoid comparing Desktop and Mobile views when Google-Mobile Friendly is enabled, as the views are not comparable.
On the New Form Builder, there's no Google Mobile Friendly option - the full form on mobile appears right away. That's why all the form views are counted. Read more about how you can optimize for mobile with the New Builder in this section.
New Builder Look and Feel
When it comes to creating compelling signup forms, it's hard to find the right balance between design and functionality. And that's why we created Form Builder — a new way for you to create fantastic signup forms that convert better than ever.
Compared to the classic Form Builder, the new Form Builder allows you to drag and drop items into your form, mix and match different styles and layouts, and create new forms 25% faster.
Your new forms will look even better, with a cleaner, more modern look and better spacing. You can create consistently branded forms if you've set up your Brand Assets.
Our new Form Builder is full of features that will help you create high-converting signup forms in no time.
Let's look at how easy it is to build forms with this update. The new Form Builder provides the following:
Fully responsive templates that adapt perfectly to any screen size (desktop & mobile) and device type (desktop & mobile);
We've made it easy to start by creating a form from scratch or an existing template. Because we know you don't have time to waste on creating the perfect form for your business, we've also included some pre-made designs so you can start building right away!
A clean and simple interface for creating high-converting signup forms with ease.
The new Builder wizard helps you design beautiful, professional-looking forms in minutes. It features design templates that include different layouts and templates based on your specific needs. And with our drag-and-drop editor, it's easy as pie for anyone.
A drag-and-drop builder with unlimited items (including custom fields).
With Drag & Drop: You can easily drag and drop the items you want into your form, which means no more hunting for the right fields within different layouts. The new drag-and-drop functionality lets you add multiple items in a single form, which is a huge time saver! With our new drag-and-drop interface, you can easily add any element from our library of items, including images, text boxes, and more.
Customizable layouts with all visual elements organized for easy navigation;
You can mix different styles and layouts and create new forms 25% faster. Layouts, which determine the structure of the form, can be considered their backbone. Items are placed within the layout. The same layout can have multiple items added to it at the same time.
Flexible form types, different display target options, and scheduling possibilities;
You need to click one button to create a landing page and change it to either a popup or an embedded form. You can also transform a popup into a landing page. Scheduling allows you to schedule your popup to be visible in defined timeframes. Display and Targeting settings will help you show your form at specific times and pages.
Autosave, redo, and undo buttons for a seamless form creation process;
All your settings will be saved automatically. You can also easily undo or redo all changes, so no information is lost. You can save your progress and resubmit if something doesn't work out or if you just change your mind.
These and many more new features are waiting for you in our new Form Builder. Make sure to try them out yourself 🚀
Language Presets will no longer be available
We'd like to tell you about language presets in classic Form Builder and how you can translate your forms in the New Builder.
Classic Form Builder
Previously, only default texts presented in the list of translations could be translated. Default fields had to be filled in manually, and other fields were not available at all. This made forms in languages aside from English look unprofessional and gave little space for creativity.
New Form Builder
The first thing you'll notice when using the New Builder is that all fields are now translatable with just one click on the field's label textbox. You can now use our translations directly from within the form builder interface! This also allows for more flexibility when designing forms, as there's no longer any need for default translated fields or labels.
You can easily change what appears on your form anywhere on the screen without editing any translation presets. For example: If you want to add an input field for your customer's name, you write it as 'name' in the label field. It's also possible to change the default value of a label or error field by editing it within the builder.
Now that we support the translation of all fields, including labels and errors, so language presets are no longer necessary.
In 2016, Google announced that it would enforce its mobile-friendly guidelines. The new rules result from Google's ongoing effort to improve the quality of user experience on mobile devices. The company said these changes were based on user feedback and industry best practices. Read more about it on the official Google blog.
This has imposed certain changes on how marketers should treat interaction with popup forms on mobile devices.
For classic Form Builder, there was no design possibility to make forms more mobile-friendly. The only solution we had was a checkbox called Google - Mobile-Friendly. Checking this box would remove the image from your popup, make it significantly smaller, and show it as a small bar at the bottom of the screen.
Mobile preview and mobile-friendly forms in the new Form Builder 📱
In Omnisend, we did everything possible to ensure our clients won't have any problems turning on Omnisend Popups on their websites. Omnisend Popups are a great way to add instant value to your website without interrupting the user experience. Our signup forms are not intrusive and can be used on any website.
You can now design your form specifically for mobile. In Behavior, choose Visibility, then choose Mobile only. The form will appear on Mobile devices only, and you can adjust targeting and design options to be specifically for mobile.
So instead of using Google mobile-friendly option, create 2 separate forms - one shown on desktop and one shown on mobile. On the mobile form, it's enough to set the display of the form after 6 seconds not to interrupt the customers mobile experience.
What's more, now you can also make your forms less intrusive but still make them stand out with the help of Teaser. Instead of showing up in the middle of a page, teasers appear around its edges, allowing visitors to continue browsing without interacting with or closing the form.
We also added new ways the teaser can appear/disappear on the site.
Before: The teaser will be shown before the form appears as visitors enter your website.
After: Visitors will see your form first, and the teaser will appear after they close it.
Before and After: The teaser will be shown both before and after visitors encounter your form.
Back in stock (Shopify only)
In the Classic Builder, when enabled, the back-in-stock form had a button that appeared next to the add-to-cart button. The button appeared automatically, but the form itself was not editable, and no content or design could be changed.
The New Builder has two different types of Back in stock forms. The first type is a popup - form that appears for out-of-stock products, or it can be configured to be a persistent teaser on the page. The second type, is an embedded form which you can embed on your product pages. This form will appear only on product pages, which have out-of-stock items.
In the Classic Builder, there was an option to write Custom CSS and make adjustments to the forms.
In the New Builder, most of these adjustments can be made in the builder itself. If your store's styles override your form's design, you can contact customer support for help. If there are other approaches that you need to do, you can override the style of the form on the store side.
