Want to unsubscribe, delete, add, or remove tags, but do it in bulk? You can segment these contacts and use segment actions to apply changes to all of them at once, saving time and effort.
💡 This article covers bulk actions applied to contacts within a segment. To rename, archive, or delete the segment itself, see Managing Your Segments.
Before You Begin
Segment actions apply to all selected contacts in a segment. Review your segment filters before running any action.
Contacts cannot be manually added to or removed from a segment. Segments update automatically based on filter conditions. To include a specific contact, add an Email address is filter. To exclude one, add an Email address is not filter.
Select Contacts in a Segment
To perform actions on a segment, make sure to select all contacts within the segment.
Step 1. Navigate to Audience → Segments → click on and open the relevant segment name.
Step 2. Check the checkbox next to the "Name" column in the list. This selects all contacts in the segment. Click Actions and choose the action you want to apply.
Actions in Segments
When you select contacts within your segment, you can choose from 5 different actions:
Add a tag — Apply a new tag to all selected contacts to help categorize or target them in future campaigns or automations.
Remove tag — Delete an existing tag from the profile of all selected contacts to keep your tagging structure clean and relevant.
Convert to subscribed — Change the status of eligible contacts to "Subscribed" so they can start receiving your marketing emails.
Unsubscribe — Manually unsubscribe selected contacts to prevent them from receiving further campaigns.
Delete — Permanently removes selected contacts from your entire Omnisend account – not just from this segment. Deleted contacts, along with all their purchase history, activity data, and campaign history, cannot be recovered.
⚠️ Important: If you want to exclude contacts from a segment without removing them from your account, adjust the segment filters instead. Segments update automatically when contacts no longer meet the criteria. Use Delete only when you intend to permanently remove contacts from Omnisend entirely.
Segment actions allow you to manage selected contacts in bulk, saving you time by eliminating the need to perform actions on each contact individually.
FAQ
What is the difference between Unsubscribe and Delete actions in a segment?
Use Unsubscribe if you want to stop sending to contacts but keep their data. Use Delete only if you need to remove contacts from your account entirely. Deleted contact data cannot be restored by reimporting.
