Save time by turning your custom email designs into reusable templates. Once saved, you can apply them to any Email Campaign or Automation Workflow with one click.

This guide shows you how to create, save, and manage custom email templates in Omnisend.

Before You Begin

  • Templates must be saved while in the email editor. If you moved to the Audience or Scheduling steps, go back to the Content step to access the save option.

  • The Saved Templates tab only appears when creating campaigns if you've already saved at least one template.

  • New to the Email Builder? Get started with the Omnisend Email Builder first.

What Custom Templates Save

When you save a template, Omnisend stores:

  • Design settings: Colors, fonts, button styles

  • Layout: Item structure, column arrangement, content blocks

  • Width: Canvas size (note: custom widths may not display correctly on all devices)

  • Reusable content: Footer text, social icons, logo, address

⚠️ Important: Custom widths may not display correctly on all devices. Always send a test email before launching your campaign.

Design Custom Templates

Omnisend provides a variety of predefined templates. These templates have their own layout, content, and design. However, these might not perfectly suit your design, layout, or content needs.

By creating a custom design template for campaigns and automation, you will be able to use a template that best fits your needs.

This means you can create a template once and reuse it later for all your campaigns and automations.

How to Save a Template

Step 1. Open a draft campaign or automation email that you want to save.

Step 2. In the email editor, click the arrow icon in the top-right corner (next to 'Send Test Email').

Step 3. Select Save as a template.

Note: You must save while in the email editor. If you've clicked 'Finish editing' or moved to recipient selection, go back to Edit Content to access this option.

Step 4. Choose how to save:

  • Save as new template: Enter a name for your template.

  • Update existing template: Select a template from the dropdown to overwrite it.

Saving as new adds it to your template library. Updating replaces an existing template with your current design.

Step 5. Click Save as template. You'll see a confirmation message.

You can create unlimited custom templates.

How to Use a Saved Template

Step 1. Create a new campaign or automation email, or open an existing draft.

Step 2. When selecting a template, click the Saved Templates tab.

Step 3. Select your template and click Choose Template.

Step 4. Customize the content as needed.

Tip 💡 Don't see the Saved Templates tab? It only appears after you've saved your first template. Check Store settings → Saved templates to view all saved templates.

To switch templates mid-edit: Click the arrow icon in the top-right corner and select Change template.

Using Templates Across Multiple Stores

If you manage multiple stores in Omnisend, saved templates don't sync automatically. To use a template in another store:

  1. Go to Store settings → Saved templates (left menu).

  2. Find your template and click Copy.

  3. Select the destination store from the Destination account dropdown.

  4. Click Copy.

Troubleshooting

Can't find "Save as template" button?

The save option is only available in the email editor. If you clicked "Finish editing" or moved to the Audience step, go back to Edit Content to access the arrow icon.

Don't see the "Saved Templates" tab?

This tab only appears after you've saved your first template. To view all templates, go to Store settings → Saved templates (left menu).

Getting an "unsupported formatting" error?

This usually happens due to incompatible text formatting. Try these steps:

  1. Clear all text formatting in your email and save again.

  2. Disable browser translation tools (like Google Translate) while editing.

  3. Delete the problematic text block and create a new one with fresh content.

If the error persists, contact our Support team.

Template looks distorted on mobile?

Custom widths may not be compatible with all devices. Stick to the default 600px width or send test emails to multiple devices before launching.
