This guide walks you through Google and Yahoo's email sender requirements, introduced in February 2024.

Before You Begin

Since February 2024, Google and Yahoo have started implementing stricter requirements for bulk email senders. These changes aim to reduce spam in users' inboxes. Whether you are a high-volume sender or a smaller sender, these changes apply to everyone.

We will guide you through all the steps needed to stay compliant. We'll cover the technical details to ensure you comply with the changes. Let's get started!

⚠️ Important: If you don't meet these requirements, your emails may be rejected or sent to spam folders. These changes rolled out gradually starting in February 2024.

Add & Authenticate Custom Sender Domain

Add and authenticate your custom sender domain. If your domain is already in place, proceed to Step 2 to assign it to Campaigns & Automations.

To add a new domain, go to Store settings Domains Add domain.

Next, choose to add your Email domain.

Select your domain provider and add the exact domain (or subdomain) you want to use for your Campaigns and/or Automations. Once entered, click 'Continue'.

You will then see the generated SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records for your domain. Copy and add these records to your DNS provider's settings.

Select your DNS provider below for step-by-step instructions on adding TXT records:

Explanation of SPF, DKIM, and DMARC:

  • SPF (Sender Policy Framework) specifies authorized mail servers for the domain.

  • DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) digitally signs emails to prevent alteration.

  • DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance) is a framework for handling emails that fail authentication, including reporting mechanisms. Ensure a valid DMARC record with at least a "none" policy.

Once you've added the records to your DNS settings, click 'Finish verification'.

Once your domain is verified, always make sure to follow a warm-up plan.

Consequences of Non-Compliance

If you don't meet these requirements, messages might be rejected or delivered to recipients' spam folders. These changes have rolled out gradually, starting in February 2024, allowing for optimization based on industry feedback.
