Integrate Figma with Omnisend

Learn how to sync Figma designs to your Omnisend Image Library

Written by Sarunas

Figma is a design platform for creating email banners, social media graphics, and other marketing visuals. With the Figma integration, you can sync your designs automatically to the Omnisend Image Library as PNG files.

This article explains how to connect Figma, configure automatic syncing, use your designs in Email Campaigns and Automation, and troubleshoot common connection issues.

Before You Begin

Make sure that:

  • You have an active Figma account.

  • The Figma account you authorize can open the file you want to sync.

  • If you duplicate a Figma Community file, duplicate it while signed in to the account you will use to authorize the connection. A file duplicated by another account might not be accessible through the Figma API.

  • You have created a page, also called a canvas, inside your Figma file. You can name it Omnisend Sync or use another name.

  • The designs you want to sync are placed directly on this page as top-level frames.

  • Your Figma plan and seat type are available during setup because they affect the available sync frequency.

  • Designs will sync as PNG files only.

  • One file and one page can be synced per connection.

Benefits

With the Figma integration, you can:

  • Sync new and updated Figma designs automatically.

  • Use synced designs in the Omnisend Image Library.

  • Add synced designs to Email Campaigns and Automation Workflow messages.

  • Choose a sync frequency from every 15 minutes to once a month, depending on your Figma plan and seat type.

Set Up the Figma Integration

Step 1: Prepare a Sync Page in Figma

  1. Open the Figma file you want to sync.

  2. Add a new page at the top level of the file.

  3. Enter the page name you want to use during the Omnisend setup. The default name is Omnisend Sync.

  4. Move the designs you want to sync onto this page.

  5. Make sure each design is a top-level frame placed directly on the page.

Any frame added or updated on this page can be imported into your Omnisend Image Library.

Important: Frames nested inside a group, component, or another frame will not sync.

Keep the following points in mind:

  • The page must exist before you connect Figma to Omnisend.

  • Page name matching is not case-sensitive. For example, Omnisend Sync and OMNISEND SYNC are treated as the same name.

  • If you rename the page after connecting Figma, update the Sync page name in your Omnisend connection.

  • Updating the page name currently requires you to reinstall the Figma app in Omnisend.

Step 2: Connect Your Figma Account

  1. In Omnisend, go to Apps.

  2. Search for Figma.

  3. Click Connect now.

  4. Complete the connection form.

Enter the following information:

  • API base URL: Leave https://api.figma.com unchanged. Use https://api.figma-gov.com only if you use a Figma for Government tenant.

  • Figma file URL: Enter the full URL of the Figma file you want to sync. For example: https://www.figma.com/design/<file-key>/<file-name>. A bare file key is also supported.

  • Sync page name: Enter the name of the page you prepared in Step 1. The page must already exist in the selected file.

  • Sync frequency: Choose how often Omnisend should check for new or updated designs.

Important: Use a Figma file URL, not a folder or project URL. The Figma account you authorize must be able to open the selected file.

5. Click Connect.

6. When redirected to Figma, sign in with the account that can access the file.

7. Click Allow to authorize the connection.

8. After authorization, you will return to Omnisend.

Step 3: Configure Sync Settings

After connecting Figma:

  1. Go to AppsConnected apps.

  2. Select Figma.

  3. Open Settings.

You can configure the following options:

  • Auto-sync: Turn on automatic syncing for new and updated frames.

  • Sync now: Check for new or updated frames immediately.

Note: Figma rate limits may prevent new designs from being imported if you run Sync now before the selected sync interval has passed. Omnisend can check the connection, but it will not import new designs until the required time has elapsed.

Step 4: Use Your Designs in Emails

  1. Open an Email Campaign or Automation Workflow.

  2. Open the Email Builder.

  3. Drag an Image item into your email.

  4. Click Select file.

  5. Select one of your synced Figma designs.

Your Figma designs are added to the Omnisend Image Library as PNG files.

How The Sync Works

Figma action

Omnisend result

Add a new frame to the sync page

The frame is synced during the next eligible check.

Update an existing frame

The updated frame is synced as a new image.

Remove a frame from the sync page

The existing image remains in the Omnisend Image Library.

Leave a frame unchanged

The frame is skipped and is not uploaded again.

Troubleshooting

The connection fails or returns me to the setup form

Check the following:

  • The authorizing Figma account can open the selected file.

  • The file URL points to a Figma file, not a folder or project.

  • The sync page exists in the selected file.

  • The sync page name matches the name entered in Omnisend.

  • The API base URL is correct for your Figma tenant.

If the file cannot be accessed, Figma may return a 403 Permission denied error. This error can mean that the authorizing account does not have access to the file or that the file URL is incorrect.

If the page name is invalid or the URL does not point to a supported file, Omnisend returns you to the setup form. Your previous entries remain available, and Omnisend shows the available pages when applicable. You can correct the details and try again without reauthorizing Figma.

My designs do not appear in the Image Library

Check that:

  1. The designs are top-level frames.

  2. The frames are placed directly on the selected page.

  3. The page name matches the name in your Figma connection.

  4. The file URL points to the correct file.

  5. You are checking inside the Email Builder by selecting an Image item and clicking Select file.

  6. You have gone to AppsConnected appsFigmaSettings and clicked Sync now.

The import can take one minute or longer, depending on the number of frames being synced.

If you click Sync now before the selected sync interval has passed, Omnisend may check the connection without importing new designs.

Syncing fails with a rate-limit error

Figma limits how often files can be accessed through its API. The limit depends on your Figma plan and seat type.

If syncing repeatedly fails or you receive a 429 rate-limit error:

  • Choose a longer sync interval.

  • Avoid clicking Sync now repeatedly.

  • Wait until the rate-limit period has ended before trying again.

FAQ

Which image formats are supported?

Figma designs sync as PNG files only.

Can I sync an entire Figma email template?

The integration syncs Figma designs as PNG images. It does not sync an editable email layout or template.

Can I rename the sync page after connecting?

Yes. After renaming the page in Figma, update the Sync page name in Omnisend.  Currently, updating the page name requires you to reinstall the Figma app in Omnisend.

Can I connect multiple Omnisend brands to the same Figma account?

Yes. You can connect the same Figma account to different Omnisend brands. Each connection can point to a different Figma file and sync page.

Can I sync multiple Figma files or pages to one Omnisend brand?

No. Each connection supports one Figma file and one page.

What happens if I disconnect Figma?

If you disconnect Figma from Omnisend, existing images remain in your Omnisend Image Library. New or updated Figma designs will not sync until you reconnect to Figma.

How often should I sync?

Your Figma plan and seat type determine which frequency is appropriate:

  • Organization or Enterprise plan with a Dev or Full seat: Every 15–30 minutes can work well.

  • Professional plan with a Dev or Full seat: Hourly is a safe default.

  • Starter plan, or Viewer or Collab seat on any plan: Weekly or monthly is recommended because these configurations have lower API limits.

If you are unsure, start with a longer interval and reduce it only if syncing works reliably.
