Mail Ward helps you identify invalid, risky, disposable, and potentially harmful email addresses before they affect your deliverability. Connect Mail Ward to Omnisend to screen Contacts, suppress risky email addresses, and verify your Automation Workflow.
This article explains how to connect Mail Ward, add its webhook to an Automation Workflow, configure suppression settings, and test the integration.
Before You Begin
Make sure you have:
A Mail Ward account. You can create a Mail Ward account here.
An Omnisend account on a paid plan. Webhook actions in Automation Workflows aren't available on the free plan.
Access to both your Mail Ward and Omnisend accounts.
Connect Your Omnisend Account to Mail Ward
Open the Mail Ward dashboard.
Click Add account.
Choose Omnisend.
Sign in to Omnisend and approve the requested permissions.
Return to the Mail Ward dashboard.
Your Omnisend store name should appear on the connected account card.
Add the Mail Ward Webhook to Your Automation Workflow
In Omnisend, open an Automation Workflow. We recommend a flow that contacts go through when they first subscribe. Learn more about Welcome Automation.
From the Flow actions section in the left sidebar, drag the Webhook block into your workflow.
Place the Webhook block immediately after the trigger.
Leave the block open. You’ll add the Mail Ward settings next.
Copy Your Mail Ward Settings to Omnisend
Go to Mail Ward.
While on the Omnisend connected account, click Setup Webhook.
Go to step 2 of the setup.
Copy the values shown in Mail Ward into the Omnisend Webhook block in this order:
Omnisend field | Value from Mail Ward |
Destination URL | Copy the Destination URL from Mail Ward. |
Header key | Enter |
Header value | Copy the unique Header value from Mail Ward. |
Body | Copy the Body value from Mail Ward. |
Click Publish changes in Omnisend and make sure the Automation Workflow is enabled.
Verify Your Setup
Return to Mail Ward and click Continue in the Webhook Setup.
Select your Automation Workflow from the list.
Run the verification.
You should see green check marks for both the URL and the header.
If a setting is incorrect, Mail Ward can apply the fix for you. The workflow is briefly paused while Mail Ward updates the settings, then turned on again.
Manage Invalid Email Addresses
To choose what happens to invalid email addresses:
In Mail Ward, go to Preferences.
Review the auto-suppression settings.
The default settings suppress only undeliverable email addresses. Keep the default settings for your first test.
Test The Integration
Send a Test Contact From the Automation Workflow
In Omnisend, add a new contact with a deliberately fake email address, such as
[email protected].Make sure the contact is subscribed to email.
Make sure the contact matches the automation trigger of the automation where you added the webhook.
Monitor the workflow. Once the contact has entered the workflow, you can continue with the following steps.
Important: Use a new email address each time you test. Mail Ward ignores the same address for 10 minutes to avoid double-charging. Reusing the address can make it appear that the integration isn’t working.
Check Results in Omnisend
Open the test contact’s profile and check for:
A screened by Mail Ward event with the score and deliverability status.
A suppressed by Mail Ward event.
An email status of Unsubscribed.
Next, test the integration with a real, working email address. The Contact should receive a screened event and remain subscribed.
You can also check whether the screening data is available for segmentation:
Go to Segments in Omnisend.
Start creating a new segment.
Select contacts who have been screened by Mail Ward.
Filter the segment by Score.
Check Mail Ward Analytics
In Mail Ward, go to Analytics and confirm that:
Profiles screened increased with the number of tests you ran.
Suppressions increased by the number of Contacts that were unsubscribed.
Your connected Omnisend store appears in the account names.
Your credit balance decreased by the number of screenings.
If you have multiple accounts connected to Mail Ward, the analytics figures show the combined total for all accounts.
Troubleshooting
Problem | Solution |
Nothing happens when you test | Use a new email address. Mail Ward ignores the same address for 10 minutes. |
The Webhook block won’t save | Paste the Destination URL first and make sure the block isn’t empty. |
The Webhook block isn’t available | Confirm that your Omnisend account is on a paid plan. |
The Contact doesn’t enter the Automation Workflow | Segment-entry triggers run only when a Contact joins the segment. A Contact already in the segment won’t trigger the workflow again. Add a new Contact for testing. |
Screening stops working | Check your Mail Ward credit balance. |
Data from the wrong account appears | If you connected more than one account, confirm that you copied the Header value from the correct Mail Ward account. |
