Contact profiles in Omnisend store your audience's data, behavior, and engagement across channels. Use this data to create smarter segments and send personalized marketing.
This guide shows you how to access contact profiles, what data they contain, and how to use it.
Before You Begin
Contact profiles show historical activity and engagement for each individual contact.
All data in contact profiles can be used in segments.
Omnisend merges all contact data (email, SMS, push) into a single profile, even if collected at different times. This prevents duplicates and extra billing.
Benefits
Contact profiles let you:
Build segments based on behavior, purchase history, and message engagement.
Trigger automations using event data (e.g., placed order, abandoned cart).
Understand customer behavior – see which products contacts view, what they buy, and how much they spend.
Track engagement – view which emails, SMS messages, and push notifications were sent, opened, or clicked.
Access Contact Profiles
To view contact profiles, go to Audience → Contacts → Select a contact to open their profile.
💡 Tip: Use the search bar to find a contact by email or phone number.
How Contact Profile Data Is Organized
Each contact profile contains two types of data:
Contact Details (left side) – Personal information like name, email, phone, location, tags, and custom properties.
Activity Timeline (right side) – Event history organized by date, including orders, message engagement, and page views.
Contact Details
The left panel shows all available personal data for the contact. This data is collected through signup forms, orders, or synced from your ecommerce store.
Channels subscription and consent details;
First and Last Name;
Email address and Phone number;
Opt-in and Opt-out date and reason;
Location details (country, city, address, and postal/zip code);
Birthdate;

Contact Activity Timeline
The right panel displays all events for the contact, organized by date. You can filter by event type to narrow results.
Events are grouped into five categories:
Category | Events |

Custom Events | Any custom events that you have already synced to your Omnisend account. |
Viewing Event Details
Each event in the Activity Timeline contains additional data you can use for segmentation or analysis.
To view full event details:
Click Event Details next to the event.
Use the Copy to Clipboard button to copy the data.
💡 Tip: This is especially useful for custom events or API-connected stores. It lets you verify what data is passed to Omnisend.
How to Use Contact Profile Data
Use contact profile data to:
Understand customer journey: Review the timeline to see how contacts move from first visit → cart addition → purchase → repeat buyer.
Build targeted segments: Filter contacts by purchase history, location, or engagement. Go to Audience → Segments → Create Segment → Select filters based on profile data (e.g., "Placed order in last 30 days").
Personalize campaigns: Use personalization tags to dynamically insert contact data (name, location, last product viewed) into emails and SMS.
Troubleshoot delivery issues: Check the Activity Timeline for "Message delivery failed" events to identify bounced emails or blocked phone numbers.
FAQ
Where can I see custom properties in a contact profile?
Custom properties are located in the left panel of a contact's profile. Go to Audience → Contacts, click on a contact to open their profile, then scroll down to find the custom properties under the Details section.
Can I search for contacts by name?
The Contacts search bar only supports searching by email address or phone number. To find contacts by name or other fields, go to Audience → Segments and create a segment using the name filter (e.g., First Name contains "John").
Why is some contact information missing from my contact profiles?
The information in a contact profile depends on what data was collected when they subscribed or placed an order. If a contact signed up via a form that only collects email, only their email address will appear. To collect additional data like name, phone, or custom properties, add those fields to your signup forms or Subscriber Preference Center.
