You've already created and enabled your automation, and now you want to edit it. This guide shows you how to make changes to a live automation without disabling it.
Before You Begin
Analyst, Campaign Coordinator, and Content Creator roles cannot edit workflows. Contact team members with Admin or Manager roles.
Adding new steps: When you add emails, delays, or splits to an enabled automation, only new contacts entering after you publish will receive them. Contacts already in the workflow finish under the original structure unless you choose Discontinue the sequence and exit them from the workflow.
How to Edit an Enabled Automation
Step 1. Go to Automations → find your workflow → click on it to open the Automation editor.
Step 2. Make your changes:
Edit message content (email subject line, body text, images, SMS text).
Add new messages, delays, or conditional splits.
Adjust trigger settings or audience filters.
💡 Tip: Check workflow stats (below the workflow name) to see how many contacts are currently in the sequence before publishing.
Publishing Changes
After making your edits, click Publish changes.
Choose What Happens to Contacts Already in the Workflow
When you publish, Omnisend asks how to handle contacts currently in the automation:
Option 1: Let them finish the workflow: Contacts already in the workflow finish under the original workflow structure they entered with. They will not receive newly added emails, delays, or splits.
Option 2: Exit them from the workflow: All contacts currently in the workflow exit immediately, regardless of where they are. They won't finish unless they re-trigger the automation.
In both cases, new contacts entering the automation will get the updated version.
Note: Contacts who completed the original workflow will not receive newly added content unless they re-trigger the automation.
