Omnisend automatically unsubscribes contacts with certain email domains, typically from third-party marketplaces.

These anonymous email addresses can cause issues, such as email bounces, harming your sender's reputation. To help you manage these problematic contacts, we've introduced the 'Blocked email domains' feature.

This guide explains how this feature works and its benefits for you.

What Are Blocked Email Domains?

If you sell products on third-party marketplaces like TikTok or Amazon and connect them to your Shopify store, you may receive orders from proxy email addresses (e.g., "[email protected]").

These email addresses are often temporary and anonymous. Sending emails to these addresses can result in bounces, or contacting them may be against marketplace policies. Despite their limitations, these contacts still count towards your Omnisend billing.

Our Blocked Email Domains feature automatically unsubscribes contacts from unwanted domains, protecting your sender's reputation and ensuring accurate billing.

Benefits

  • Protect Your Sender Reputation. This feature helps maintain a positive sender reputation by preventing emails from being sent to invalid domains.

  • Accurate Billing. Unsubscribed contacts are not counted in your billing, so you only pay for valuable contacts.

Key Features

1. Audience Management Tab. You'll find an 'Audience Management' tab in your Store Settings. Here, you can view the blocked domain list.

2. Pre-Defined Blocked Domains. We’ve pre-added some marketplace domains to the blocked list for all users. This list will be updated by us automatically in the future.

We may update the default blocked domain list from time to time. If you notice new domains being added, there is no need for concern.

3. Customizable Domain List. You can customize the list by blocking or allowing our pre-defined domains, as well as adding any other unwanted domains. We will automatically unsubscribe contacts from these domains.

You can view blocked email domains from this tab, their source (whether they were added manually or by Omnisend), and their status as 'Blocked' or 'Allowed.' You can also unblock any domain by clicking 'Allow.'

To add another domain you prefer to block, click 'Add domain' → enter the domain → Save domain.

4. Automatic Unsubscription. When a new contact is created and added to your Omnisend audience, we check if their email domain is on the blocked list. If it is, the contact is automatically unsubscribed.

Please note that only newly added contacts will be unsubscribed. If you have existing contacts from these domains, you can create a segment and unsubscribe them manually.

This feature helps you manage your contact list more effectively by automatically unsubscribing contacts from unwanted domains. It protects your sender's reputation and ensures you are billed correctly.
