Google Postmaster Tools is a service provided by Google that helps email senders monitor and improve the performance of their email campaigns, specifically when sending emails to Gmail users.

It provides detailed insights into how Gmail processes your emails and offers data that can help improve deliverability rates, sender reputation, and overall email campaign success.

Benefits of Integrating Google Postmaster Tools within Omnisend

By integrating Google Postmaster Tools within Omnisend, you gain access to critical insights that can improve your email deliverability and overall email marketing performance.

Once integrated, you’ll have direct visibility into two key reports: User-Reported Spam and Domain Reputation on your Deliverability page. These reports provide actionable data to help you optimize your email marketing strategies and ensure your messages reach your customers’ inboxes.

Using User-Reported Spam Data

  • Understand Customer Feedback. The User-Reported Spam report allows you to see how often your emails are flagged as spam by Gmail users. This feedback is essential in understanding how your audience perceives your content. If spam reports are high, it may indicate that your emails are not aligning with your customers' expectations, prompting you to rethink your content or sending frequency.

  • Improve Deliverability by Reducing Spam Reports. By monitoring spam reports directly in Omnisend, you can take proactive steps to reduce them. Adjusting your email content, refining your target segments, and optimizing sending times can all help lower the likelihood of your emails being marked as spam, which in turn improves your deliverability rates.

Using Domain Reputation Data

  • Monitor the Health of Your Sending Domain. The Domain Reputation report gives you a clear view of how Gmail perceives your sending domain. A positive reputation means your emails are more likely to reach your subscribers' inboxes, while a negative reputation could lead to more of your emails being diverted to spam. By regularly checking this report, you can stay informed about your domain’s standing.

  • Take Action to Maintain or Improve Reputation. With insights into your domain reputation available directly within Omnisend, you can take immediate steps to address any issues. This might include improving your email content quality, ensuring proper list hygiene, or enhancing your authentication protocols like SPF, DKIM, and DMARC.

  • Prevent Future Deliverability Problems. By monitoring your domain reputation, you can identify and resolve potential issues before they impact your deliverability. If you notice a decline in reputation, you can quickly implement changes to prevent further deterioration, ensuring that your emails continue to reach your audience.

Setup Process

To start using Google Postmaster Tools within Omnisend, follow these simple steps.

Step 1. Connect Google Postmaster Tools. A connection wizard is available in various places within Omnisend, such as the Goals section of your Dashboard, the Reports section of Campaigns and Automations, and more.

From any of these pages, click 'Connect Google Postmaster Tools'.

Step 2. Confirm connection. You'll be redirected to the connection wizard. Click 'Connect Omnisend to Google Postmaster' to begin the integration process.

Step 3. Sign In to Your Google Account. Next, you'll need to provide access to your Google account. Select the account you want to connect, grant the necessary permissions, and sign in.

Step 4. Verify sender domains you want to analyze. Omnisend will automatically fetch the domains associated with your email addresses. Only verified domains will be displayed, and they will be shown at the subdomain level. Click 'Use these domains' to confirm the connection.

Google Postmaster Tools requires that the sender domains you use to send emails are verified.

If we do not detect any sender domains in your account, you will need to add your domain directly in Google Postmaster Tools. You can find instructions on how to do this in the Troubleshooting section.

Step 5. Connection Confirmation. Once you’ve confirmed your domains, the connection process will be complete. We will begin importing your stats from Google Postmaster Tools into your Deliverability Report.

Please note that it may take a few days for the data to populate.

If you don't see any data after a few days, it could be because not enough emails have been sent to Gmail accounts.

Ensure that you have sent at least 100 emails to Gmail addresses for the data to appear.

Troubleshooting

If Omnisend shows the error message: “We didn’t find any sender domains in your account. Add your domain directly in Google Postmaster Tools.” you’ll need to manually add your domain in Google Postmaster Tools.

  • Click on Go to Google Postmaster Tools to proceed with the setup.

  • In Google Postmaster Tools, click on the plus sign to add the domain.

  • Then, input the domain name you use for sending emails.

  • Google Postmaster Tools will provide you with TXT records. To proceed, log into your DNS provider’s platform, locate your domain's DNS settings, and add the provided TXT record. If you’re unsure how to do this, your DNS provider’s support documentation usually has specific instructions for adding TXT records.

The links below will take you to the specific pages where you can find instructions for adding TXT records in each DNS provider's interface.

  • Once the domain is verified in Google Postmaster Tools, return to Omnisend, click 'Check for sender domains again', and confirm the connection.

By integrating Google Postmaster Tools with Omnisend, you’re taking a significant step toward improving your email deliverability and ensuring that your messages reach your customers’ inboxes.

With insights into user-reported spam and domain reputation, you can optimize your email strategy and maintain a strong sender reputation.
