The number of SMS messages you can send with the credits depends on the price for a single SMS in your recipients' countries. The price for a single message can be checked here.
Before you start
- On the Trial plan, you get $1 credit for SMS messages sending. Since the price for a single message in the US is $0.015, with $1 credit, 66 texts can be sent to US numbers.
- On the Pro and Enterprise plans, you get FREE SMS credits equivalent to the price of your subscription. If you are paying $99 on the Pro plan, you get $99 on your SMS messages budget for month.
- On any of the paid plans (Standard, Pro and Enterprise) the customer may subscribe to receive SMS credits.
- Each of the Brands connected to your Omnisend account has a separate budget for the SMS messages sending.
Adding SMS credits
There are a few ways to get SMS credits added to your account, they can be included in your plan (Enterprise or Pro), ordered as subscription service (Standard, Pro, Enterprise), or they can also be rolled over from the previous billing period.
You can find more information on the number of SMS messages sent in the over-view window, by clicking on your Profile menu or by going to the Store Settings page.
In the Pricing plan page, you can see the detailed information on the number of SMS credits you have in your account, as well as the details about your SMS credits subscription plan.
For example, the screenshot attached below shows the account on the $199 Pro plan with $20 SMS credits subscription plan. This customer was also using the service previously and has $645 unused credits from the last 30 days.
SMS credits for Pro and Enterprise plan
All of the customers on the Pro or Enterprise plan will get SMS credits equivalent to the monthly or annual subscription plan payment. For example, upgrading to a $99 Pro plan, you get $99 SMS credits for the next 30 days; when upgrading to $1000 annual Pro plan, you get $1000 SMS credits for the next 365 days.
These credits will be added automatically and can be used within the current billing period or rolled over to the next 30 days for both monthly and annual payments.
SMS credits subscription
SMS credits subscription is an additional service you may purchase within your current Standard, Pro, or Enterprise plan.
The billing tiers for the SMS credits subscription are:
- Monthly subscription: $20, $40, $80, $120, $200, $300, $400, $500, $700, $1,000, $1,500, $2,000.
- Annual subscription (monthly x 12): $240, $480, ... $24,000.
You may also enable the auto-upgrade for the SMS credits subscription if the number of the SMS credits falls below the specified minimum. To avoid overpaying, you may also add the ceiling tier for your monthly upgrade.
Before you choose the billing tier, you may want to check the price for a single SMS in your recipients' countries to see how many credits are needed.
Let's imagine that you've enabled the Auto-upgrade with the floor and ceiling amount presented in the screenshot. In that scenario, when you use more than $115 credits out of $120 available, your SMS credits subscription plan will upgrade to the next billing tier, you will get charged for $200, and will have $205 SMS credits on your budget.
It is entirely up to you whether you want to enable the auto-upgrade option or not. However, if you have automation workflows with SMS messages, you may want to secure yourself in case you run out of the credits before your billing cycle end.
If you want to cancel your SMS credits subscription, you will need to click on the Cancel button on the Pricing page of your Store Settings.
Rolled over credits
If you do not use all of your credits in a month, those credits will roll-over to the next 30 days for both monthly and annual payments. Note, only the charge for the last billing period is rolled over.
For example, if you have $20 credits left from September, you will get them for your October budget, but the credits for September will expire before November.
Important to note:
- SMS credits are NOT related to your Email credits. If you run out of Email credits please DO NOT purchase SMS credits - check this article for information about Email credits.
- SMS credits are non-refundable.
SMS pricing for the US recipients
Once you have a budget for the SMS messages sending, you can start using it to send texts to both US and non-US customers. The price for a single SMS is based on the recipient country, meaning that with $1, around 65 messages can be sent to the US numbers.
Increase the SMS daily sending limit to US numbers
We assign you a free SMS sending limit to send SMS messages to US numbers. It allows you to send up to 250 text messages per day for an unlimited time. You will be able to increase the limit to the required amount when creating an SMS campaign. Each additional limit of 250 messages costs $1 for 30 days and will not expire until you cancel it. The price for the additional limit will be deduced from your SMS credits.
For example, if you need to send 400 messages to the US, you will need one additional credit 1$ for the limit increase. If you need to send 1000 texts, you need 750 additional messages or 3 USD credits.
Each limit includes your dedicated long phone number and allows you to receive STOP and HELP replies from your customers.
If you need to send SMS messages to US numbers, on the Price Estimation stage of the SMS campaign, you will see the price for all non-US and US customers calculated separately.
The final amount will include the cost for the SMS messages sending to non-US customers, to US customers, and the daily limit increase (if needed).
In this example, we charge you for the SMS messages based on the pricing for the US and Lithuanian customers and $2 for the daily limit increase in the SMS messages sending to the US customers.
If I had permanent SMS credits purchased before subscription service was introduced? Previously refilled credits are valid until the end of September 2020.
If I was using an SMS credit service with the auto-refill option (enabled before March 26th, 2020), will I get transferred to the new subscription service? If you had auto-refill enabled before, we have automatically migrated you to the SMS credits subscription with auto-upgrade. You can change it any time in Store settings.
If I'm on the annual plan, would I be able to subscribe to SMS service for one month only? No, the SMS credits subscription is tied to a billing cycle, if you are on the annual plan, you will be able to purchase yearly SMS credits subscription only.
Can I get SMS credits if I have a legacy Pro plan (signed up before 6th January 2020)? Yes, just reach out to email@example.com and we will migrate you to the new Pro plan. Keep in mind that the new Pro plan does not have unlimited email sending and connection with Facebook Messenger.
Can I purchase more SMS credits on the Trial plan? SMS channel is only available on the paid plans and you can purchase more credits once you upgrade. Nevertheless, all Trial plans get 1$ SMS credit to try the service, which is enough to send up to 60 text messages to US/Canada numbers.
Will my SMS credits transfer to the next month? The free SMS credits you get with a monthly Pro and Enterprise plan, as well as the ones you purchase with the SMS credits subscription plan have an expiration date of 60 days. If you don't use your credits in the first month, you will be able to use those the next month.
Is it possible to send MMS? It is not possible to add multimedia content to the SMS message, but we know about this request and already work on this feature development. However, we cannot provide any ETA.
