Ever come across a term in Omnisend and wondered what it means? This guide is a quick reference for ecommerce marketing terms used in Omnisend. Find definitions for campaigns, workflows, forms, and more.


A

  • Abandoned Cart Email: A triggered email or sequence reminding customers about items left in their cart. Sent automatically when someone adds products but doesn't complete checkout. Often includes product images and discount incentives.

  • API Key: A unique identifier that lets external systems connect to Omnisend programmatically. Use API keys to integrate Omnisend with custom platforms or third-party apps.

  • Automation: A series of emails, SMS, or push notifications triggered by customer actions (e.g., abandoned cart, first purchase, birthday). Build workflows under the Automation tab.

  • A/B Test: A feature that sends different versions of a campaign or workflow to test which performs better. You can test subject lines, content, or send times. Omnisend automatically sends the winning version to the remaining audience.

B

  • Back in Stock Notification: A triggered email sent when an out-of-stock product becomes available again. Customers can subscribe to these alerts on product pages.

  • Bounce: An email delivery failure.

    • Soft Bounce: Temporary issue (e.g., full inbox).

    • Hard Bounce: Permanent failure (e.g., invalid email address).

  • Birthday Email: An automated message with personalized offers sent on a customer's birthday. Use birthday workflows to boost engagement and loyalty.

C

  • Campaign: A one-time bulk email, SMS, or push notification sent to a segment of your contacts, such as a promotional offer or newsletter. Create campaigns under the Campaigns tab.

  • Campaign Booster: A feature that resends an updated version of your campaign to contacts who didn't open the first send. Increases open rates without manual effort.

  • Clickmap: A visual report showing where recipients clicked within your email. Use clickmaps to identify top-performing links and products.

  • Contact: An individual in your Omnisend audience, including subscribers, non-subscribers, and unsubscribers. Manage contacts under the Audience tab.

D

  • DMARC: Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance. A protocol that verifies email sender authenticity to reduce spam and phishing.

  • DNS Record: Domain Name System settings that authenticate your emails and improve deliverability.

  • Double Opt-in: A two-step subscription process where new subscribers confirm their email address by clicking a link. Ensures list quality and compliance with anti-spam laws. Enable in your signup form settings.

  • Dynamic Content: Email content that changes automatically based on contact data or behavior. Examples: showing different products based on browsing history or personalizing offers by location.

E

  • Email Builder: A drag-and-drop tool for designing custom email layouts. Add text, images, buttons, and products without coding.

  • ESP (Email Service Provider): A platform (like Omnisend) that lets businesses send bulk emails, manage contacts, and track campaign performance.

F

  • Form Targeting: Rules that control when and where signup forms appear – based on page URL, device type, or visitor behavior (e.g., exit intent).

  • Frequency Settings: An Automation feature that limits how often contacts receive messages from the same automation. Prevents over-messaging.

I

  • Import: Adding contacts to Omnisend via CSV upload, integration, or API.

  • Integration: A connection between Omnisend and your ecommerce platform (e.g., Shopify, WooCommerce) or third-party app. Integrations sync contacts, orders, and products automatically.

  • Landing Page: A standalone web page built in Omnisend to capture email signups or promote offers. No website required.

N

  • Non-subscribers: Visitors who browsed or purchased from your store but haven't opted in to marketing emails. You can still track their behavior and send transactional messages.

O

  • Open Rate: The percentage of recipients who opened your email. Indicates subject line effectiveness and audience engagement.

  • Order Confirmation Email: A transactional message sent immediately after a purchase. Confirms order details and builds trust.

P

  • Placed Order Rate: The percentage of recipients who completed a purchase after receiving your email. Key metric for ROI tracking.

  • Pop-up Form: A signup form that appears on your website based on triggers like time on page, scroll depth, or exit intent.

  • Preheader: Preview text displayed next to or below the subject line in an inbox. Use it to expand on your subject line and boost opens.

  • Product Picker: A tool for adding store products to emails – with images, prices, and links. Syncs automatically with your ecommerce platform.

  • Push Notification: A short message sent to customers' browsers (desktop or mobile) via web push.

  • Personalization Tag: A placeholder in your message that pulls contact data automatically (e.g., [[firstName]], [[email]], [[city]]). Also called merge tags. Use them to personalize subject lines and email content.

R

  • Reactivation Email: A campaign targeting inactive subscribers to re-engage them. Often includes special offers or "We miss you" messaging.

  • Reports: Analytics dashboards showing campaign and workflow performance – opens, clicks, revenue, device stats, and more. Access via the Reports tab.

S

  • Segment: A dynamic group of contacts filtered by behavior or attributes (e.g., purchased in last 30 days, located in California). Use segments to send targeted campaigns.

  • Shipping Confirmation Email: An automated message sent when an order ships. Includes tracking links and delivery estimates.

  • Signup Form: A tool for collecting contact information – includes pop-ups, embedded forms, landing pages, and Wheel of Fortune.

  • SMS Campaign: A one-time text message sent to a segment of your contacts. Requires SMS credits.

  • Spamtrap: A fake email address used by ISPs to catch spammers. Avoid spamtraps by never buying email lists and removing inactive contacts regularly.

  • Sender Domain: A custom email domain you own and authenticate in Omnisend (e.g., @yourbrand.com). Improves deliverability and builds brand trust. Requires DNS setup.

T

  • Tagging: Labeling contacts based on actions or attributes. Use tags to create segments and trigger workflows. Example: "VIP Customer", "Abandoned Cart – High Value".

  • Teaser: A small tab or badge that appears on the edge of your website. When clicked, it opens your signup form.

  • Template: A pre-designed email layout you can reuse across campaigns. Save time by starting with a template instead of building from scratch.

  • Trigger: The event or condition that starts an automation workflow. Examples: contact subscribes, cart is abandoned, order is placed, contact enters a segment. Configure triggers when building workflows.

U

  • UTM Parameters: Tracking codes added to links in your emails. Let you measure traffic sources and conversions in Google Analytics. Example: ?utm_source=omnisend&utm_medium=email.

W

  • Welcome Email: The first automated message sent to new subscribers. Sets expectations and introduces your brand.

  • Wheel of Fortune: A gamified signup form where visitors spin a wheel to win discounts. Increases email signups through interactive design.

  • Workflow: A set of automated actions triggered by customer behavior, such as purchases or abandoned carts. The same as Automation.
