In this guide, you will learn how to use your store's footer sign-up form subscribers in Omnisend. You will also learn how to send proper welcome emails and troubleshooting tips for when things go wrong.

What is the Footer Signup Form?

Nowadays, most e-commerce store templates come with an embedded signup form in the footer of the website. Since these forms are not created in Omnisend, only the subscribers coming from it are captured, as Omnisend only captures data coming from it.

The footer signup form on your website allows your website visitors to easily and quickly join your mailing list, subscribe to content updates, or access other information that you offer.

With footer forms, you are able to increase conversions and engagement by reducing the steps it takes for people to join your mailing list. This form from your store template will be tracked by Omnisend to provide the best signup experience for your customers.

Subscribers Autosync for Shopify and Bigcommerce

Most Shopify and Bigcommerce store templates come with a default signup form at the bottom of the page. Below, you will learn how those forms work in Omnisend.

What's great about footer forms is that you don't have to do anything extra to integrate them with Omnisend. All customers who have subscribed through the footer form will be automatically added to your Shopify or Bigcommerce admin and then synced to your Omnisend account as subscribed. The synchronization is regular and shouldn't take more than 1 hour for new contacts to appear in your Omnisend audience.

All customers who will use the footer form to subscribe will receive a tag. You’ll be able to find them in your audience using the tag "newsletter". You can base your segment on this tag to track these customers separately.

Moreover, to properly welcome your subscribers, you can create Welcome automation, which works for all signup forms, including footer forms.

You can also use a custom automation setup if you want to send your customers coming from the footer a different email flow. Just create an automation based on the segment (Tag is newsletter), using the main trigger Contact Enters a Segment. Every time someone signs up using the footer form, they will receive a message from this automation workflow.

Moreover, you can use campaigns to send single-time emails to a segment. Here’s how:

If you want to do a single-time email to the customers from this segment, we advise using Campaigns instead. Once you are done with setting up your Email Campaign, you can select your segment from the list and send this email only to this segment:

Troubleshooting Welcome Automation for Footer Form

If you’ve enabled welcome automation and didn’t receive your welcome email after signing up, here’s what you can do:

  • If your footer form is not an Omnisend form, you should delete the trigger filter 'Signup method is signup form'. This filter means only contacts signing up through Omnisend forms will enter the automation.

  • Ensure that you do not have any specific form selected as a trigger filter:

  • Go to Audience, and try to find the contact you used to subscribe. Be aware that a welcome email will only be sent after contact is synced to Omnisend, which can take up to 1h.

  • Make sure you haven't used this email address previously, unsubscribe if you did, and try again.

  • Wait a little while, in some rare cases the sync might take up to an hour. Check if the email you used has appeared in your audience. Then check the welcome automation for further delays.

  • Some Shopify themes provide popups as a part of the theme - these will not work automatically with Omnisend. We recommend using Omnisend pop-ups for seamless integration and to better target your customers.

  • If you want to put a subscription form in another place in your store, use our native Embedded form instead.

  • If you receive many fake bot email subscriptions, you need to turn on double opt-in from your Shopify store.

Footer Forms for API Stores

If your store platform is different from Shopify or Bigcommerce, any custom footer forms won't be captured by Omnisend automatically. Instead, we suggest disabling any store forms you have and using Omnisend forms which will add your contacts to Omnisend audience in real-time.

We offer native embedded forms which act as an easy way to display your signup form as part of your website. All you need to do is to create a simple form in Omnisend and copy a short HTML code and add it to your website theme code.

The overall process of creating an embedded form is straightforward. To create an embedded form, navigate to Forms and click Create form.

In the Forms Library, select Embedded Style forms → Select one of the form templates → Click Use template.
