Omnisend supports 18 languages to help you deliver emails that feel familiar and relevant to your customers. You can set a default language for campaigns and automations, and translate default email blocks automatically.

This article covers how to configure language settings and apply translations in campaigns and automation workflows.

Before You Start

  • Only texts presented in the list of languages and translations can be translated automatically. Any custom text you enter in your message won't be translated automatically.

  • Omnisend has 18 main languages that you can choose from: Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), Slovenian, Spanish (Latin America and Spain), and Swedish.

  • Manually added content blocks in your emails cannot be translated automatically; use Omnisend AI instead.

  • Product names, descriptions, and prices are pulled directly from your e-commerce store and are not translated by Omnisend.

  • If you use Shopify Markets: Product links may default to base URLs (e.g., /en/product) instead of localized versions (/lt/product). Learn more about Shopify Markets data in Omnisend.

Setup Process

Step 1. Go to Store settingsLanguage and translationsselect the default language you'd like to use for translation.

Step 2. Review the list of translations under Campaigns and Automation to make any necessary adjustments.

Note: Changing the default language applies only to new campaigns and automations. For existing workflows, update the language setting for each email block individually (see below).

Translation in Campaigns and Automation

Campaigns

Once you set your default language in Store settings, it will be automatically preselected for all future campaigns. However, you can still change the language for any individual campaign in the email settings.

Subject lines and preheaders are not automatically translated. Translate them manually or use the Omnisend AI Writer with a prompt like "Translate to French."

Automation

In every automation workflow, you can set a default language for each email block separately. To do this, click on the email blockselect a language from the drop-down menu.

Keep in mind:

  • Only system-generated email blocks (discount blocks, footers, product blocks) are translated automatically.

  • Custom content blocks require manual translation using the Omnisend AI Writer.

💡 If you wish to trigger your automation workflows in a few different languages, you can use Conditional Splits to send different emails based on the customer's language.

FAQ

Why are product names and links in the wrong language in my emails?
Omnisend pulls product data (names, descriptions, prices, and URLs) exactly as stored in your connected e-commerce store. Only system-generated email blocks (footers, discount blocks, product block buttons) are translated automatically. To display product information in another language, update your store backend with translated product data. If you use Shopify Markets, product URLs may default to the base language version. Can I change the language for an Automation Workflow that's already live?
Yes. You can edit the language setting for any email block in a live workflow. However, please keep in mind that the change applies only to emails sent after the update.

Can I translate custom text blocks automatically?

The Omnisend translation feature can translate default email blocks only (e.g., abandoned products item, discount item, etc.). Custom text blocks can be easily translated using the Omnisend AI Writer in the email builder

Does Omnisend support Right-to-Left (RTL) languages like Arabic or Hebrew?

Currently, our platform does not support native rendering for right-to-left (RTL) text. Although it's possible to enter or paste RTL text, it may not display correctly by default. Applying custom styling, such as direction: rtl, can help align the text properly. However, because the platform isn’t fully optimized for RTL layout, issues with punctuation and overall formatting may still occur.

Can I send emails in languages not listed?
You can manually write or paste content in any language using custom text blocks. However, automatic translation for default content blocks (footers, discounts, product blocks) is only available for the 18 supported languages.

How do I translate signup forms?
Signup forms have limited automatic translation. To translate custom text (headlines, button labels, legal consent blocks), open the form in the Form Builder and manually replace each text element. For multi-language stores, create separate forms for each language and use Page Targeting to show the correct form based on URL (e.g., /fr/ for French pages).
