Wheel of Fortune is a gamified popup form provided by Omnisend. It is an interactive way to collect subscribers by offering them to spin a wheel and win a discount or anything else you would like to offer in exchange for their signup.
Before You Begin
Wheel of Fortune is an additional item you can add to any Omnisend popups.
To have your form working, make sure you have a live store with an Omnisend snippet. If you have Shopify or Bigcommerce or are using one of our plugins, like Magento, your snippet is already there. If you are on custom API integration, refer to this guide.
Wheel of Fortune Item is available on all the Omnisend plans.
This guide is dedicated to Wheel of Fortune Item. To learn how to set up a popup form, jump to the dedicated guide.
Discount Codes. Make sure that all discount codes you wish to use in the Wheel of Fortune are created in your store. Omnisend does not automatically create these codes, so they must be generated manually on your ecommerce platform.
Setup Process
Step 1. Create or Edit a Popup Form. Go to Forms → Create a new Popup form or open an existing one. Edit the form as needed, then Add the Wheel of Fortune item from the left-side menu.

Success and Subscribed Messages
Your customers see the success message upon successful subscription. Click on the Success tab in the bottom menu to see and edit your success message.
On the left-side menu, you will see a Discount item that can be added to your Success message. You need to drag and drop this item to your success message.
In the Discount item settings, you will see 2 options:
Use the Wheel of Fortune discount. For your Wheel of Fortune popup, you should select this type of discount. This will show the discounts you have set up on the slices. Once the users spin the Wheel and submit the forms → they will see the discount they won based on the slices setup.
Use your own discount. This option can be only used for popup forms with no Wheel of Fortune item added. You won't be able to select it if you have the item added.
Please be aware of the following important information regarding the Wheel of Fortune and discounts for subscribers:
New Subscribers: For new subscribers, it operates as follows:
The wheel spins first.
After the spin, the success message with the discount is displayed.
Subscriber Discount Display: People who are already subscribed to your newsletter won't see the discount on the success page generated by the Wheel of Fortune feature. When dealing with existing subscribers, the spinning wheel step is skipped entirely. Instead, the system shows the 'already subscribed' message immediately.
Removing Subscribed Page
If you want both existing and new subscribers to have the opportunity to spin the wheel and receive discounts, you can remove the subscribed page from your form.
By doing so, you ensure that discounts are visible to all customers, including those who are already subscribed and new subscribers.
This is particularly useful for forms like the Wheel of Fortune, where you want to extend the chance to win discounts to all of your customers.
Teaser for Wheel of Fortune
Add a Teaser to your form that will still stand out to your users because it appears around the edge of the page. To turn it on, navigate to the bottom menu → Teaser → Enable. Once it's enabled, you can access the Teaser tab whenever you need.
You will be able to edit the Teaser design, text, placement, and timing upon which it should be shown to your customers.
Once your customers click on the Teaser, the popup with Wheel of Fortune will unfold for them 🎉

Contact Information Required. You must collect contact details (email or phone) in at least one of the two steps, with a dedicated field in either step

Wheel of Fortune Discount Code in Welcome Automation
You can send Wheel of Fortune discount codes via email using our Wheel of Fortune automation preset.
Here’s how it works:
The automation is initiated when a contact subscribes via the Wheel of Fortune form. The 'Subscribed to a marketing event' captures the event properties, including the discount code generated by the Wheel of Fortune.
This preset is defined by the Wheel of Fortune settings trigger filter, which ensures only those who participated in the Wheel of Fortune spin-to-win experience are added to this flow.
After the trigger and a 1-minute delay, a Conditional Split will split your customers based on the condition: "First subscription is true." This check determines whether the contact is subscribing to your email list for the first time.
YES Path: The contact is a new subscriber.
NO Path: The contact has subscribed in the past.
This allows you to provide more personalized experience for different types of audiences.
Path A: First-Time Subscribers (YES)
The email is designed for new subscribers and includes [[event.discount_code]]
personalization tag, which dynamically inserts the discount code the customer won during the Wheel spin.
This personalization adds value by giving the customer an immediate, customized experience, improving engagement and conversion. The contact leaves the workflow after receiving the email.
Remember: Everything is customizable. You can edit email settings and content as you wish, but be sure to keep the personalization tag for the discount code visible to the customer.
Path B: Returning Subscribers (NO)
This email is adapted for the existing customers from your audience who want to spin the wheel for the prize. The default email also includes [[event.discount_code]]
so the returning subscriber also sees the unique prize code they received from the Wheel of Fortune form. The contact exits the workflow after receiving this tailored message.
Tip: If you want to rebuild the email by yourself and remove the default discount text block, to find it again, locate the personalization tag in the email builder by selecting Personalization → Automation Event → Discount code. This will let you insert the unique discount code from the Wheel of Fortune directly into your email content. For example, in your welcome email, the discount code will automatically display as: “Use code [[event.discount_code]]
to get your special offer!”
❗️Important: Avoid Sending Duplicate Welcome Emails
If you also have a general Welcome automation, make sure to exclude Wheel of Fortune subscribers from it to prevent sending two welcome emails to the same person.
In your Welcome automation, update the trigger filters to have an additional filter Form settings 'does not contain' wheelOfFortune
.
