Integrate Mage Loyalty with Omnisend

Learn how to connect Mage Loyalty to Omnisend

Written by Tomás Alloatti

Mage Loyalty helps Shopify stores run points or store-credit rewards, VIP tiers, referrals, and wishlists. Connect Mage Loyalty to Omnisend to use loyalty information in segments and messages, and start automation workflows from loyalty activity.

Mage Loyalty

Benefits

  • Build audiences by available points or store credit and VIP tier.

  • Personalize campaigns and automations with a customer’s current loyalty balance.

  • Follow up when customers earn rewards or redeem a discount.

  • Use optional referral, birthday, and wishlist events when configured in Mage.

Before You Begin

  • Install Mage Loyalty on your Shopify store and configure your loyalty program.

  • You need Mage’s Essential plan or above for the Omnisend integration.

  • You need access to the Shopify store and the Omnisend brand you want to connect.

Setup Process

Step 1. Create an Omnisend API key

In Omnisend, select the brand you want to connect. Go to Store settings → API → API keys and create a dedicated key with Contacts: read and write and Events: read and write permissions. Copy the complete key and keep it private.

Step 2. Connect Mage Loyalty

In your Shopify admin, open Apps → Mage Loyalty → Integrations → Omnisend. Paste the key into Omnisend API Key and click Save API Key. Check that the integration shows Connected.

💡 For Mage’s setup instructions, see How to Set Up the Omnisend Integration.

Step 3. Choose your events

On Mage’s Omnisend page, review Event Settings and select the events you want to use. Changes save automatically. Store-credit programs use Store Credit Awarded, Store Credit Pending, and Store Credit Expiry Soon in place of the corresponding points events.

Referral and wishlist events require their associated Mage features and event settings. Wishlist alerts also require the wishlist alert provider to be set to Omnisend. Enable only the events you plan to use.

Step 4. Check the connection

Use Send Test Event in Mage with an email address you control to send sample data.

In Omnisend, go to Audience → Contacts, find that email address, and open the event under Contact activity → Event details. Next, earn credit or redeem a reward through your storefront using a test customer. Check that the contact’s balance updates and the corresponding event appears.

If Mage Test Mode is enabled, only listed test customers generate events. Review Mage’s Test Mode guide before testing.

What Data Is Passed

Mage matches customers by email address and writes its own loyalty properties to Omnisend contacts. Properties update when a customer’s points, tier, or rewards change.

Contact Properties

  • Points programs: magePointsBalance, mageLifetimePoints, and mageRedeemedPoints.

  • Store-credit programs: mageStoreCreditBalance (formatted currency), mageStoreCreditBalanceValue (number), mageLifetimeStoreCredit, and mageRedeemedStoreCredit.

  • VIP information: mageVipTierName, mageNextVipTierName, and mageAmountToNextVipTier.

  • Dates: enrollment, last sync, and birthday where supplied.

Some properties depend on your program configuration or Mage plan. See Mage’s complete property and event reference for available fields.

Loyalty Events

  • Points Awarded / Store Credit Awarded: an approved earning action. Store-credit awards include Credit Awarded, Credit Awarded Value, Earning Rule, and Status.

  • Reward Redeemed: a customer spends points or store credit on a reward. Details include Reward Name, Discount Type, Discount Code where issued, and the balance after redemption. For store-credit programs, Credit Spent is formatted in your store currency, while Points Spent holds the amount in cents. For example, a $1.00 redemption sends Credit Spent $1.00 and Points Spent 100.

  • VIP Tier Changed: tier changes when VIP tiers are enabled; see Mage’s reference for supported trigger behavior and fields.

  • Optional events: pending or expiring rewards, referrals, birthdays, welcome, cashback, photo challenges, gift reminders, and wishlist alerts, depending on enabled features.

Use Loyalty Data in Omnisend

Create a Loyalty Segment

Go to Audience → Segments and use a Mage custom property as a filter. For example, target a VIP tier with mageVipTierName, or customers with credit available using the numeric mageStoreCreditBalanceValue.

Personalize a Message

In your campaign or automation message, choose a Mage field under Personalization → Custom properties.

For example, use [[contact.custom_properties.mageStoreCreditBalance]] for a formatted balance or [[contact.custom_properties.mageVipTierName]] for the current tier. Add a fallback for contacts whose property is empty.

Build Event-triggered Automation

Use Mage events to send messages when a customer earns store credit or redeems a reward.

Go to Automation → Create workflow → Create from scratch and select the Mage event you want to trigger the workflow (the event becomes available after Omnisend receives it for the first time).

Add an email to the workflow, then use Personalization → Event to include details from that event. For example:

  • Store Credit Awarded: include Credit Awarded to tell customers how much credit they earned.

  • Reward Redeemed: include Reward Name and Discount Code so customers can use their reward. For store-credit programs, you can also include Credit Spent.

These event details are available only in workflows triggered by the corresponding event. To personalize a regular campaign with a customer’s current loyalty balance or tier, use their synced contact properties instead.

💬 For more information about setting up event triggers and using event fields, see Create and Manage Custom Events in Omnisend.

FAQ

Why are loyalty properties missing?

Customers without loyalty activity since connection may not have Mage properties yet. Check the customer email, connected brand, and API key permissions, then inspect a supported loyalty change.

A loyalty event creates or updates the contact in Omnisend. New contacts are added as non-subscribers. A property-only update requires the contact to already exist in Omnisend.

Can I sync existing loyalty members?

Do not assume connecting automatically imports all historical loyalty data. Mage’s current CSV import guide describes vendor-assisted bulk Omnisend syncing. Contact Mage if you need an existing-member bulk sync.

Why does an event appear without an email?

Check that the matching Omnisend workflow is active and that its trigger, audience filters, and message settings allow the contact to enter and receive the message. In Mage, also confirm the event is enabled. For a manual credit award, select Send store credit earned notification when you intend to trigger the configured notification.

How do I disconnect?

Open Mage Loyalty → Integrations → Omnisend and click Disconnect to stop future syncing.
