What is captured newsletter form?

Nowadays most e-commerce store templates come with an embedded signup form in the footer of the website. Since these forms are not created in Omnisend, they are called captured as Omnisend only captures data coming from it.

Captured signup form on your website allows your website visitors to easily and quickly join your mailing list, subscribe to content updates, or access other information that you offer.

With captured forms, you are able to increase conversions and engagement by reducing the steps it takes for people to join your mailing list. This form from your store template will be tracked by Omnisend to provide the best signup experience for your customers.

Classic version of Newsletter Signup Form

If you were using Newsletter Signup Form as a mediator between your footer form and Omnisend - starting February 4th, all signups coming from the footer in your Shopify store will sync automatically. We encourage you to turn off the newsletter form and check more details about this form below.

  • Newsletter sign-up form that you see in your Omnisend forms does not provide you with a signup form; it helps you to integrate the one you already have. Basically, that's a tool that connects your Shopify form to Omnisend.

  • This type of integration is only available to a certain types of signup forms and might not be a solution for all cases. It works for the signup forms, that are available as a part of your website template. Usually, those signup forms are available in the footer of your website, but the exact placement is not that important in this case.

  • What is important, is that this form should be a part of your website and should not be provided by a third party. Omnisend is then able to locate its code (sometimes automatically, sometimes with some manual help) and capture the signups.

Captured forms for Shopify and Bigcommerce

Most Shopify store templates come with a default signup form at the bottom of the page. Below you will learn how those forms work in Omnisend.

What's great about captured forms is that you don't have to do anything extra to integrate your footer form. All customers who have subscribed through the footer form will be automatically added to your Shopify and then synced to your Omnisend account as subscribed. The synchronization is regular and shouldn't take more than 1 hour for new contacts to appear in your Omnisend audience.

All customers who will use the captured form to subscribe will receive a tag. You’ll be able to find them in your audience using the tag "newsletter". You can base your segment on this tag to track these customers separately.

Moreover, to properly welcome your subscribers, you can create Welcome automation which works for all signup forms including captured forms. Please note that no particular form should be selected for trigger if you want it to work for the captured form.

Troubleshooting welcome automation for captured form

If you’ve enabled welcome automation and didn’t receive your welcome email after signing up, here’s what you can do:

  • Ensure that your Form trigger is set to "is any" in your Welcome automation:

  • Go to Audience, and try to find the contact you used to subscribe. Be aware that a welcome email will only be sent after contact is synched to Omnisend, which can take up to 1h.

  • Make sure you haven't used this email address previously, unsubscribe it if you did, and try again.

  • Wait a little while, in some rare cases the sync might take up to an hour. Check if the email you used has appeared in your audience. Then check the welcome automation for further delays.

  • Some Shopify themes provide popups straight in your theme - these will not work automatically with Omnisend. We recommend using Omnisend popups for seamless integration and to better target your customers.

  • If you want to put a subscription form in another place in your store, use our native Embedded form instead.

  • If you receive many fake bot email subscriptions - you need to turn on double opt-in from your Shopify store.

Captured forms for API stores

If your store platform is different from Shopify or Bigcommerce, any custom footer forms won't be captured by Omnisend automatically. Instead, we suggest disabling any store forms you have and using Omnisend forms which will add your contacts to Omnisend audience in real-time.

We offer native embedded forms which act as an easy way to display your signup form as part of your website. All you need to do is to create a simple form in Omnisend and copy a short HTML code and add it to your website theme code.

The overall process of creating an embedded form is straightforward. To create an embedded form, navigate to Forms and click Create form.

In the Forms Library, select Embedded Style forms → Select one of the forms templates → click Use template.
