Learn how to gather and manage product reviews through Omnisend

About Reviews

Our Omnisend Product Reviews solution offers several ways to improve your customer feedback loop. You can automate post-purchase product review requests, display positive product reviews in your Shopify store, and improve your SEO rankings to attract more traffic.

  • You will be able to access and manage all reviews directly within the platform. This includes the ability to hide reviews when necessary, ensuring your brand remains protected.

  • Additionally, our product ratings will be visible in Google search results, helping to increase your store's visibility and attract more traffic;

  • We also offer ways to encourage your customers to share their thoughts with review reminders, special discounts, or upselling capabilities, which can lead to even more sales.

  • At the moment, this feature is exclusively accessible to Shopify users.

Product Reviews Pricing

All merchants on any plan can collect an unlimited number of product reviews at Omnisend. However, the number of published product reviews is connected to your plan:

  • For those on the Free plan, you can publish up to 50 reviews;

  • For those on the Standard plan, you can publish up to 1,000 reviews;

  • For those on the Pro plan, you can publish an unlimited number of reviews.

The number of published reviews is connected to your plan on Omnisend. If you are on the Free plan and wish to publish more than 50 reviews, you must first upgrade to the Standard plan. Similarly, if you’re on the Standard plan and wish to publish more than 1,000 reviews, you must first upgrade to the Pro plan.

💡 You can always check the number of reviews you have published in your profile menu.

Setup Process

To start using Product Reviews in Omnisend, navigate to the Reviews page in your Omnisend account. Click Get Started.

If you have previously imported your product reviews from Shopify or other platforms, you can set up the full Product Reviews flow by clicking Start Setup. Continue reading this guide to learn how to go through all the steps.

Step 1. Display customer reviews in your product pages

First of all, you need to add the widget to your product page to display product reviews. For this, click Open Shopify settings.

Step 1.2. You will be redirected to the default page in your active Shopify theme. We will add the Product Reviews App to the page body automatically for you. All that is left to do for you is to save the page by clicking Save in the top right corner.

Note that the reviews you will see while adding a widget are just placeholders for the theme; they won't be reflected online. The product will show 0 reviews; you will be able to import the existing reviews you have to Omnisend.

Step 1.3. Once done → click Confirm completed changes → click Next step.

Please note that if you have a vintage Shopify theme, you will be automatically redirected to the manual onboarding page. Those who face issues with auto onboarding can also opt for manual onboarding (click 'Continue manually' next to error text). Find a video guide on manual onboarding here.

Step 2. Show how customers rate your products

Your Shopify theme has a new Rating widget. We will add the widget to your product page to display how previous customers rate it.

Click Open Shopify settings to initiate the process.

Step 2.2. You will be redirected to the default page in your active Shopify theme again. We will add the Star Rating to the page body automatically for you. All that is left to do for you is to save the page by clicking Save in the top right corner.

Step 3.3. Once done → click Confirm completed changes → click Next step.

Step 3. Finalize the flow by clicking Finish

We will automatically enable Product Reviews automation and ask your customers to leave a review 14 days after their purchase. If you want to make any changes to the automated emails, go to the Automations tab and locate Product Reviews automation. To learn how to edit the emails in this automation, continue reading.

Once you have finalized all the steps, the submitted reviews will appear in your store's Reviews tab.

Managing Reviews

When working with a list of reviews in Omnisend, it's important to understand the available actions that can be performed on each review. These actions include publishing, unpublishing, replying to, deleting, and verifying the review.

To enhance credibility, product reviews can be marked with a 'verified' sign. Reviews from verified buyers are automatically marked, and you can manually mark reviews coming from your website as verified in the Reviews tab. This feature increases trust, boosts product credibility, and allows you to highlight genuine feedback.

Please note that you can edit or delete replies to any review by clicking on the 'more' button.

You can also choose to automatically publish all reviews or only those with a minimum number of stars by going to Reviews → Settings → Publishing options → 'Publish automatically' and selecting the desired reviews.

Product Reviews Automations

If none of the five pre-built Reviews automations are enabled before you go through the Review App installation, the Review Request and Review Follow-up presets will be enabled for you automatically.

To locate these automations, simply go to Automations and find either the Review Request or Review Follow-up workflows. Click on the workflow name to open it.

The email messages provided in pre-built automations can be personalized to your preferences. You can find more details on what exactly is included in both emails here. Please note that we will create two automations without any discounts, but you can always use a preset with a discount or make changes to existing flows.

However, it is advisable to retain the triggers as it is. You have the option to alter or eliminate the delay as required. When an order is marked as fulfilled, it implies that it was sent to your customer. But, we cannot be certain about the delivery time.

For Product Review Requests, it is recommended to match the delay time with the shipping time + a few days so the customer has enough time to receive and experience the product. This will ensure that the follow-up messages are received after the customer has had the opportunity to use the product.

You can make changes in the email but do not remove any links, as they will take your customers to the review submission form.

Product Reviews from Customer Perspective

Option 1. Customers can leave a review by clicking the link in the email

See below what the experience looks like from the customer's perspective.

Please note that this is only a visual representation of customer experience, not a store with products.

Option 2. All customers can leave a review by accessing your store using the 'Leave a review' button

All customers who visit your store are able to leave their reviews. If they want to leave a public review, they will need to provide an email address.

Please note that any email address provided will be added to your audience as a non-subscribed contact if it doesn't exist in the audience before.

⚠️ Image files must be under 10MB in size and in .jpg, .jpeg, or .png format. Each review can include up to 5 images.

Public reviews are not published by default. However, you can easily change this option in the publishing settings modal, which is accessed under the Reviews tab.

Tip 💡 To preview images within reviews, simply click on them.

How to Uninstall Omnisend Product Reviews

If you decide to stop using the Omnisend Product Reviews feature, follow these steps to uninstall the widgets and prevent further review requests from being sent to your buyers. 

  1. Go to Shopify Theme Editor
    Access your Shopify store and open the Theme Editor from your Shopify admin dashboard.

  2. Remove the Omnisend Product Reviews Widget
    In the Theme Editor, locate the Omnisend Product Reviews widget on the product pages and remove it.

  3. Remove the Omnisend Star Rating Widget (if added)
    If you have also added the Omnisend Star Rating widget, make sure to remove it as well from the product page layout.

  4. Disable Product Reviews Automation
    To stop sending review requests or follow-up emails to your customers, navigate to your Omnisend account and disable any active Product Reviews automations. This ensures that your buyers no longer receive review requests or follow-up emails.

By following these steps, you will successfully remove the Omnisend product reviews widgets and prevent further requests from being sent to your buyers.

FAQ

Where can I add Product reviews?

We will add it automatically for you, but you can move it and place your product review block anywhere on the page, but it must be on a product page. Currently, there are no options for detailed controls, such as excluding it from certain pages. Please note that the information you see in the theme editor when you add your review is only an example and does not represent your scores.

To find this path manually, go to Online Store → Themes. Find the theme that you want to edit, and then click Customize. Navigate to the Products → Default product (or other product type).

How much does using Product Reviews cost?

You can collect an unlimited number of Product Reviews. The number of reviews you can publish is tied to your plan:

  • Free plan: up to 50 published reviews

  • Standard plan: up to 1,000 published reviews

  • Pro plan: an unlimited number of published reviews

How does my store look if there are no reviews?

If there are no reviews available, you will see empty ratings.

I've set up reviews but I don't want to publish them on my website. What now?

After you've set up the review widget on your product pages, you can begin gathering new reviews without having to import any old ones. To make sure that the reviews don't automatically appear on your store set the publishing options to manual. This lets you handle and assess the feedback before deciding which reviews to make public.

Please note that you can't gather reviews without displaying an empty reviews widget on your store (you can hide all reviews, but the widget still needs to be shown).

You can also use Omnisend to create automations based on the ratings received. For example, send thank-you messages for 5-star reviews or follow-up messages for ratings below 3-stars, which will help you identify and address customer satisfaction issues effectively.

Step 1. Create a segment for a specific rating. Go to Audience → Segments → Create segment → Create from scratch → Submitted product reviews → Rating is exactly X.

Step 2. Next, head to Automations → New workflow → Create from Scratch → Select Enter Segment as the trigger. After that, add a delay of your choice → Add an email block and design the email follow-up.

How can I manage the styles of the reviews?
To control the review styles, you can use brand assets. The following parameters govern the review styles:

  • Accent colors are used for stars and buttons.

  • Dark colors are used for text.

  • Typography is chosen by the font set in Paragraph & Footnotes font.

Please, there's currently no other way to change the colors of widgets, stars, etc.

Can you adjust the automation?

Yes, it is possible to modify the Product Review automation. You can adjust the delay times based on what you think is suitable for your business. However, please note that the ideal time to request a review is when the customer has received the order and tried the product. It is essential to keep links such as the image, text, and button included in the email, as they are necessary for the workflow to open the review popup. The workflow emails will be designed to match your brand's assets.

How can I display reviews and star ratings on my custom product pages? They currently only appear on my default product pages, but I'm unable to add them to my custom pages.

If you get "product-reviews" not added. Liquid templates don’t support sections and blocks" error please follow the manual setup. For the star ratings widget please add the code snippet below.

It is recommended to add both to the active theme's custom liquid block, or custom HTML if that is not available.

Is it possible to translate my Reviews widget?

At the moment, it is not possible to translate the texts in the Reviews widget.

Why am I receiving notifications from Google Search Console about multiple aggregate ratings in my product reviews?

This can conflict with existing microdata schemas in your theme, leading to multiple aggregate reviews being recorded. To resolve this, you should disable the code within your microdata schema, allowing the Omnisend script to be the only source of review data.
