This article provides information about the early access of Product Reviews feature in Omnisend.

About Reviews

Our Omnisend Product Reviews solution will offer several ways to improve your customer feedback loop. You will be able to automate post-purchase product review requests, display positive product reviews in your Shopify store, emails, and forms, and improve your SEO rankings to attract more traffic.

  • You will be able to access and manage all reviews directly within the platform. This includes the ability to hide reviews when necessary, ensuring your brand remains protected.

  • Additionally, our product ratings will be visible in Google search results, helping to increase your store's visibility and attract more traffic;

  • We also have ways to encourage your customers to share their thoughts with review reminders, special discounts, or upselling capabilities, which can open doors to even more sales.

  • At the moment, this feature is exclusively accessible to Shopify users.

Setup Process

To start using Product Reviews in Omnisend, navigate to the Reviews page in your Omnisend account. Click Start collecting reviews.

If you have previously imported your product reviews from Shopify or other platforms, you can set up the full Product Reviews flow by clicking Start Setup. Continue reading this guide to learn how to go through all the steps.

Step 1. Allow Omnisend to display reviews on your store

Please note that your store might skip this step if you have previously enabled App embeds. If you don't see this, just move to Step 2.

Make customer reviews visible on your Shopify store by embedding the Omnisend app → Click Open Shopify Settings.

Step 1.2. You will be redirected to Shopify theme settings (Online Store > Themes). Select App embeds, turn on Omnisend App embeds, and click Save in the top right corner.

In the GIF below, you can see how to find this feature in your Shopify admin and enable App Embeds.

Step 1.3. Confirm enabling App Embeds by clicking Confirm completed changes → click Continue in the bottom right corner.

Step 2. Display customer reviews on your product pages

After enabling App embeds, a new Reviews widget was added to your Shopify theme. Now, you need to add the widget to your product page to display product reviews. For this, click Open Shopify settings.

Step 2.2. You will be redirected to the default page in your active Shopify theme. We will add the Product Reviews App to the page body automatically for you. All that is left to do for you is to save the page by clicking Save in the top right corner.

Note that the reviews you will see while adding a widget are just placeholders for the theme; they won't be reflected online. The product will show 0 reviews; you will be able to import the existing reviews you have to Omnisend.

Step 2.3. Once done → click Confirm completed changes → click Continue.

Step 3. Show how customers rate your products

Your Shopify theme has a new Rating widget. We will add the widget to your product page to display how previous customers rate it. Click Open Shopify settings to initiate the process.

Step 3.2. You will be redirected to the default page in your active Shopify theme again. We will add the Star Rating to the page body automatically for you. All that is left to do for you is to save the page by clicking Save in the top right corner.

Step 3.3. Once done → click Confirm completed changes → click Continue.

Step 4. Finalize the flow by clicking Finish.

We will automatically enable Product Reviews automation and ask your customers to leave a review 14 days after their purchase. If you want to make any changes to the automated emails, go to the Automations tab and locate Product Reviews automation. To learn how to edit the emails in this automation, continue reading.

Once you have finalized all the steps, the submitted reviews will appear in your store's Reviews tab.

Managing Reviews

When working with a list of reviews in Omnisend, it's important to understand the available actions that can be performed on each review. These actions include publishing, unpublishing, and deleting a review.

It's also important to note that if you have imported reviews in the list, you can view the replies to those reviews. However, it's currently not possible to reply to a review within Omnisend or your website.

Product Reviews Automation

To locate the automation we have enabled for you, go to Automations → find Product Reviews → click on the workflow name to open it.

The email message provided in the Product Review preset can be personalized to your preferences. However, it is advisable to retain the trigger as it is. You have the option to alter or eliminate the delay as required.

When an order is marked as fulfilled, it implies that it was sent to your customer. But, we cannot be certain about the delivery time.

It is recommended to match the delay time with the shipping time + a few days so the customer has enough time to receive and experience the product. This will ensure that the follow-up messages are received after the customer has had the opportunity to use the product.

You can make changes in the email, but do not remove any links, as they will take your customers to the review submission form.

Customers can leave a review by clicking the link in the email. See below what the experience looks like from the customer's perspective.

Please note that this is only a visual representation of customer experience, not a store with products.


What is an app embed?

An App embed is a crucial part of the Omnisend app that must be enabled for proper functionality. This feature is required not only for Reviews but also for the seamless operation of Omnisend. To enable the App embed, please navigate to the Shopify store and locate the Shopify theme editor. From there, you can ensure that the App embed function is turned on, allowing Omnisend to work smoothly and correctly.

Where can I add Product reviews?

We will add it automatically for you, but you can move it and place your product review block anywhere on the page, but it must be on a product page. Currently, there are no options for detailed controls, such as excluding it from certain pages. Please note that the information you see in the theme editor when you add your review is only an example and does not represent your scores.

To find this path manually, go to Online Store → Themes. Find the theme that you want to edit, and then click Customize. Navigate to the Products → Default product (or other product type).

How does my store look if there are no reviews?

If there are no reviews available, you will see empty ratings.

How can I manage the styles of the reviews?
To control the review styles, you can use brand assets. The following parameters govern the review styles:

  • Accent colors are used for stars.

  • Dark colors are used for text.

  • Typography is chosen by the font set in Paragraph & Footnotes font.

How can a customer leave a review for my product?

For customers to leave a review, they must receive an automated message 14 days after their order has been fulfilled (or after a different delay you set up). The message will include a form that matches your brand assets. Customers will need to fill out this form to leave a review.

Can you adjust the automation?

Yes, it is possible to modify the Product Review automation. You can adjust the delay times based on what you think is suitable for your business. However, please note that the ideal time to request a review is when the customer has received the order and tried the product. It is essential to keep links such as the image, text, and button included in the email, as they are necessary for the workflow to open the review popup. The workflow emails will be designed to match your brand's assets.

How can I display reviews and star ratings on my custom pages? They currently only appear on my default product pages, but I'm unable to add them to my custom pages.

It is recommended to add both to the active theme's custom liquid block, or custom HTML if that is not available.
